Colt is still attending a private school and is in 4th grade this year. Their social studies class is based on NC History. There end of year project is a folder about NC's history that must contain pictures about each section. They are allowed to use stock internet pictures, BUT, I like to take him and let him see them
Colt went to school and I went to work that morning. I got home around 2pm and started loading the RV up with clothes and snacks and what-nots. As soon as Colt got home from school, he changed clothes and we took off. We drove a majority of the way and pulled over in the Tyrell County Visitor Center. After ordering the Harry Potter collection last week when we got back from Orlando, we decided to watch the movies on this trip. We watched part 1 of the series, it was pretty good.
After a good night sleep, we hit the road and drove the last 1.5-2 hours. A lot of the restaurants were closed because its not peak season but we did find a nice food truck that was selling breakfast. We recharged our bellies and set a course for the Cape Hatteras Light house. Unfortunately, the actual light house was closed because of the Chinavirus but we were still able to walk around, catch a little knowledge and visit the gift shop.
After the lighthouse we went see the Lost Colony location. This was probably my favorite part of the trip. A lot of history in one place and very interesting. We walked around and saw all that we could, taking pictures along the way.
Next stop was the Wright Brothers monument. This was Colt's favorite place. It was cool to be were the brother's actually made history. Colt has been a fan of the brother's since 3rd grade when he first learned of them. That was his favorite part of the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit too.
We left there and went to check in at our campsite. We located our site and then went to dinner down the street. After dinner we went back to the lighthouse to see the tower with it's light on and walk on the beach, it was amazing! After Colt's run in with the local crabs on the shore, we went back to our campsite and watched Part 2 of the Harry Potter series, then went to bed.
Not being in a hurry, we slept in till about 0930 before getting up and packing up. I made us breakfast and we started to head out. We stopped at a public access and went out on the beach for a couple hours so Colt could test out his new OBX boogie board. Around 2pm we went back to the RV and showered up and prepared for our trip back. We made a pit stop at the Cape Hatteras Landing Marina to get a set of smash pennies! We drove for a while, making a couple stops along the way to grab a fresh drink and to stretch. We ended up stopping at a Cracker Barrel on I40 to sleep for the night. We watched part 3 of the Harry Potter series and went to bed.
Waking up to a monsoon, we walked out of the RV and straight into Cracker Barrell for breakfast. After some pancakes for Colt and Sunrise Sampler for me, we were ready to rock-n-roll, we fired up the RV and drove on in. I absolutely love our trips together!
