This was a fun quick little overnight trip in the RV with the "toad" in tow to the Atlanta area. We went solely to see the Atlanta Braves play but ended up doing some exploring around Stone Mountain State Park.
Surprise! Surprise!! I ordered me and Colt matching Chipper Jones shirts to wear to the game! I got us tickets to the Braves Vs Phillies game that started at 7pm so I knew we needed to leave early to get thru the ATL traffic. We left promptly at 9am and with just one or two stops for food and fuel we got to our campsite at Stone Mountain State Park at 6pm! I hate ATL traffic! With a quick unload of the "toad" and a rapid set up of the RV we hopped in the "toad" and made our way to Truist Park to see some baseball.
This was our first time at Truist in Atlanta and was immediately impressed with the set up and looks of the park. The gates opened at 6:30pm and it was "free hat" night so we collected our free Braves merch and went inside to walk around to find our seats. Our seats were amazing! a couple rows from the first base line right were the foul fence ended. We also had access to a private lounge that had all you can eat soft serve ice cream. We had a great view of Freddie Freeman Jr and Ronald Ocuna Jr, the entire game and Bryce Harper for the Phillies. Although the Braves lost the game 12-2 we did get an Ocuna Jr foul ball that made Colt's night! After the game we went back the the RV and got some shut eye, it was a great ending to a great day!
We broke down camp and hitched the "toad" back to the RV and just drove the whole rig thru the park. We started the park by riding the gondola to the top of the largest exposed piece of granite on Earth! This piece of granite although doesn't technically qualify as a mountain, is called Stone Mountain. There is carving on the side that features the South's confederate top members, General Stonewall Jackson, General Robert E. Lee and President Jefferson Davis. Fun Fact...The carving at Stone Mountain is actually larger than the Presidential carvings at Mt. Rushmore. At the top we were allowed to walk around and take in the views. After a bit, we went back in the upper gift shop and found a penny machine in the corner before riding back down.
Once we safely reached the bottom, we climbed aboard the 1940's era locomotive and enjoyed a five mile trip around the mountain in an open air car. After the short ride, we took advantage of some mini golf before heading back to the RV and enjoying a quick refreshing bottle of water. After our thirsts were quenched, we set the GPS for home and that concluded our trip.
